What exactly is the grate in the pellet hopper for? I don't understand what it is there, and it makes it very difficult to stir the pellets in the hopper or removing the pellets when I want to switch pellets. Anybody just removed it? Any reason not to, and if so what was Treager's purpose of the grate?

It is there for liability reasons. If you remove the grate, stick your fingers down in a moving auger, and get them caught, Traeger's laywers can claim that your injuries are your own fault because you modified their product and removed a safety "feature".

Going in the next edition of the user manual: "Remove necktie before checking pellet level". 👔

I think the grate is in the same box as my Traeger meat probe.

and both still in a plastic bag!!!

When one of you loses a finger I don’t want to hear about it here

There has to have been a lawsuit already on this subject, the Attack of the Pellet Auger. When a safety incident happens at my work, it gets addressed and OSHA is involved. Next thing you know changes. So someone had to have been involved in this.
