Decided to give a smoke tube a try, it came with caps for each end. So after lightning with a gas torch I let it burn for a bit then put the cap on and placed in the grill, FAIL it went out OK next try leave the cap off this worked sort of I had it at the opposite end to the hopper. It had very little smoke and eventually went out. Next try I lit it again and moved to the back of the grill in the centre behind the meat this worked better as I assume there was better air flow.

To the smoke tube users out there what's your tips.

Seems like it does better for me to put tube on angle. I lay mine in a disposable aluminum pan with top end looking upwards

I've not tried the smoke tube but have a pellet snake, same issues with it going out. I don't think there is enough oxygen in the smoking chamber to sustain the pellets. Tried cracking open the lid to allow more O2 in but wasn't much help.

I'm trying to remember, but either RustyJake or Slim uses a piece of word to hold the tube elevated. I use that idea now.

Here you can see my leftover chunk of walnut as the tube elevator. I use my short tube for ribs and other short timed cooks.

Please I use one on my gas grill. See folks with 2500 Tragers using smoke tubes? Never understood it.

I place mine just level, usually on a piece of folded heavy foil.

I light by standing the tube vertically, use a torch and really get the top burning, with flame. Let it burn a bit, then gently lay it into place. Since my Timberline exhausts out the rear, I place my tube across the front.

My smoke tube has always burned all fuel completely. Here's the remains after my last brisket smoke;

You have to get a fire going with the smoke tube standing on end... I let mine burn for maybe 2 minutes or longer... I also use wood chips which helps A LOT!!! Sometimes I have trouble blowing the flame out even... and it was ME that had the wood block for elevation...

I fill my tube, lay it down(the open end) on my propane side burner and let it burn there till its almost impossible to blow the flame out. Ever since doing that ive never had it go out mid smoke. It always finishes.

My smoke tube goes out with some pellets and is fine with others. Cherry pellets almost always stops burning.

PitBoss Cherry with bourbon barrel chips, burns like crazy, smells like heaven
