NO shut down cycle

I have an older model Traeger Big Tex. What is the proper way to shut the grill down, this model does not have a shut down cycle

Shutdown cycles just stop the auger and run the fan a while to burn up the remaining pellets. If you don't have a shutdown, maybe just go to the lowest setting for 5-10 minutes before turning it off I'd guess.

The goal is to leave as clear a firepot as possible for the next cook.

I am assuming it is a big tex looks just like the photo you posted. There is no model or serial number under the hopper lid. It is at least 10 -12 years old and still works great

maybe call Traeger but RemE probably has the best advice here...
Or just turn off... won't the pellets just burn out? Maybe check and vacuum before every smoke to make sure you DON'T have a pit full of pellets before starting up.

Pretty cool. Have never seen one of those. Wondering if you can easily update that to the Digital or Digital Pro Controller (BAC236 or BAC365) to add some additional features.

Glad to find this post. I had the same question. Mine is a Lil' Tex Elite circa 2011. Bought it new but had it in storage this last couple of years. And of course I can't find the manual after all these years. I was wondering about upgrading to a modern control. But I just tried the manual approach mentioned above. I turned down the temp to 180, from 375. The auger stopped, the fan kept running, and after 5 minutes I just turned the knob to off. Maybe I don't need the new control after all.

I'd say that's a good practice.

Probably the only risk with a hard shutdowns is the possibility of a slow smoldering burn up through the auger tube. Having the auger stop and fan run on burns up the remaining pellets in the firepot while protecting the auger full of pellets. And it's probably low risk.
