Newbie smoker!

I only have Treager probe at the moment, I just ordered other probes today!
That's great. I found some pretty big differences when I hooked up my inkbird.

I don't read good sometimes......a bit more of a skimmer

I bent a grill clip, drilled a few holes (center and for the screw) and attached it to the grill using one of the screws holding the existing probe in place.

This also protects the tip of my Traeger probe. You’ll see a few posts here where they break during cleaning, removing the grates, etc.

Looks like I also need to clean my probe after the last cook!

I also made one that uses the screw in front of the probe screws:

So glad you ordered that unit on sale... You will not use your Traeger probe ever again, (worst probe ever made) and you will not use any other probe in the Traeger unit... the Unit you are getting is going to be your main go to for watching the Ambient inside pit temp, and all your meat. You trust your new unit and adjust your Traeger temp till your whatever your Inkbird is reading... Trust the meat probes and you should have some real good cooks.

Just learn to use your phone while cooking with that app, that's the hardest part. Also a small tip, most meat just probe in to the thickest part and leave it... don't get into a habit of moving probes around cuz every time you pull a probe out, you lose juice from that hole. Your Traeger is well known to convection "skin over" meat, I can do skinless chicken and halfway thru the smoke my meat has a skin. I poked a chicken part late in a smoke once and pulled to check another one and all the juice came out and my chicken was dry... I'll never do that again.

You get 4 probes with that Inkbird, use one next to the RTD to monitor your grill, and the others in you meat, THE END

Thanks. I think I’ll do this and and haven’t located non-galvanized plumbers hangers yet. Just online and a small hardware store, but still. I didn’t really think of bending the existing probe in the manner you did.

My first attempt at a "probe holder" was with galvanized plumber strap. I am sure there are different opinions on using this but you won't get toxic fumes at the temps we're cooking at. But you can order those grill clips for a few bucks on the Fire Board site, and I am sure they have them on Amazon, too.

What you see in my pic is a piece of thin metal at every Home Depot, it's handy for tons of other things. I'ts not a plumber strap.

The Inkbird comes with 2 clips

Hopefully you got the InkBird with the 50%off - at $50 net, I have two (2) of them and seriously considering a third. Believe me that if you get into this at all, 4 probes may not be enough. You'll use 1 or 2 for ambient temp monitoring at different spots on the pit, plus when you have a pork butt, brisket, or any multiple proteins, you'll be glad to have the extra.

Welcome to the forum and Good Luck!

are you able to monitor them all on the same app? I started to tell the wife I really wanted one and they were only $100 when the other one I wanted was over $200! (FB)....then just order two. I mean that was going to be my original plan anyway if I decided on the IB (minus the just order two part). But I balked and decided to lean in on the 50% discount as justification.
