For wanting another smoker.
I got an Ironwood 650 for my 40’th year work anniversary and really enjoyed smoking meat with it. I’ve retired and want another smoker for our seasonal camp site. Friends told me about https://www.mac.bid/ and the Akron warehouse is 15 miles front m our house. I’ve seen some traegers sell for reasonable prices. Another option is to use the sons Green Mountain Davey Crocket tailgate smoker. I’ve used it and I’m impressed with it.

Since I do not know you or your wife, I have no idea whether her assessment of your mental state is accurate. However, since you are now retired, you have EARNED the RIGHT to be a LITTLE CRAZY. If you do not have things to keep your mind occupied, you really will go crazy.

If smoking meat is your thing, or one of many, enjoy it while you still can. If you like camping, you need a way to cook meals. A portable smoker/grill is idea for that. I know nothing about the auction site you mention. Apparently, they purchase returns from bog-box stores, but whether the products are first quality or missing parts is a risk you take when dealing with such vendors.

Warning by Jenny Joseph

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we’ve no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I’m tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick flowers in other people’s gardens
And learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practise a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

I understand. Always figure out what you really want and then try to find it at a price you are willing to pay. If you set a price level first, you might find something that is within your budget, but it not really what you need.

I have an Ironwood 885 which I use to cook for my wife and I. I could have gotten the smaller IW650, but I like cooking on the top rack only using a drip pan under the cook on the bottom rack to make cleanup easier. I do not cook for just one meal, but make enough for about a dozen meals and put it in the freezer. So figure out how to best use your large Weber grill.
