Weird odor and taste

We cooked planked salmon and the taste was horrific. I thought it was an anomaly. Had never tasted anything like it on our Traeger before. We’re going to do tri tip tonight and after it smoked and was going to temp we smelled the same horrible odor/taste and thought our grandson may have put a plastic hot wheels in the grill when we weren’t looking or some plastic may have somehow gotten in. Nothing...Could there be a bad batch of pellets? We at a loss. Any ideas?

How often do you clean it would be my first question. Next dump the pellets and use fresh. After that .....? At a loss

Thanks. It was recently cleaned. Will dump and burn up the rest. Will report back.

which grill do you have - My original Ironwood 650 had a bunch of paint peal off the exterior of the cooking chamber at 450 deg. When it happened it smelled like you describe. Traeger did the right thing and covered it under warranty.
