Traegar Pro
I purchased a Traegar Pro 400 in March of 2016, and it worked great the first few months I had it. The problems I started having are:
  1. Would not reach maximum temperature of 450.
  2. The temperature differential varied greatly at the different temperatures. Example, when set on 180, it may reach 230.

The things I did to remedy the problems were;
  1. Install new RTD
  2. Install new hot rod
  3. Install new pellet pot
  4. Clean more often
  5. Use only Traegar pellets

When I installed I, 2, and 3, above I did a thorough cleaning. The first time I fired it up after this it would only go to approximately 350. Traegar said use their pellets only, so I bought a new bag of Traegar pellets. When I fired it up with the new pellets it reached 450, however, it took it a while. Then gradually the maximum temperature started dropping to approximately 375.

I keep my pellets in a stainless steel trash can that has a tight fitting lid on the patio and somewhat seal the bag after each time I refill the hopper. My questions are:
  1. Could the pellets be absorbing moisture from the air causing the grill to not reach maximum temp of 450 F? I didn't have this problem when I first got the grill.
  2. What would cause the wide temperature differential at selected settings?

I have a friend who just bought a RecTec and it holds the temperature very close to it's setting. I get the feeling the control unit on my Traegar is not working correctly.
