I'm thinking about adding GrillGrates to my Pro 575 and have some questions. The info states that it raises the temperature (and why it will actually sear the meat) about 150°. So, does that affect the temps you smoke at? Living in Minnesota doing cold weather grilling, I have trouble keeping the grill on temp, will adding these help that?
Any other tips or opinions will be appreciated.

The grates just collect and concentrate the heat in the grate ribs so they impart the grill marks into the meat. The grilling temp and times remain about the same.

They work very well.... Don't clean them much 😁. In used the onion route for the initial seasoning.

Looks like an early spring in MN. I decided to buy a set for my Weber Genesis and not my IW885. After reading all the paint issues, I only use my 885 for 300 degrees or less. The Weber can take the heat. I plan on a lot of reverse searing using the Weber.

Simple is NO to that direct question, but a Traeger blanket might

I have a set of GrillGrates for all three of my grills. It does concentrate the heat at grill level enabling you to get a nice sear and serious grill marks

GrillGrates are amazing. They grill and sear as well, or better than on my Weber. You don't need to change your temperature settings. For example, if I'm doing a steak, I start it at 215 degrees until the steak reaches an internal temp of 120. Then I pull the steak, and raise the heat to 425. Wait for it to warm up thoroughly, then Reverse Sear for just a few minutes on each side which brings the steak to around 130. Pull the steak off, let it rest which brings it up to 135 - very nice medium rare. Couldn't be any easier or taste any better.

Best of luck - I'm confident you'll be glad you made the investment.

had them was not impressed to be honest...decided to get a real grill instead and use the traeger for what it does best

Best investment for a grill to get that sear and consistent temps across the surface. I have used mine more flipped over for a flatter surface for burgers and they are the best. I have the Costco Traeger that is shaped like a traditional grill but with double walls etc. I crank it to HI (500 deg) put burger on for 5 minutes flip once 5 more minutes and its perfect between med/mw. I also suggest the burger patty maker that's like $20. I got one this winter on clearance for $5 thinking I would probably not use it but wow it is really useful having perfect shaped and same size patties. Now I buy bulk burger and just make a ton of patties at once and freeze in groups of 4 etc. I enjoy med rare steaks so I'm pretty much a HI heat steak cooker on the grill grates but I'll do 3 flips to get cross sections on both sides and about 12 minutes total for a thick cut to hit MR. Good luck and enjoy.

Are these things really worth $80?

I waited for a sale, I also have some aluminum grates that came off a downdraft cooktop that sear great and leave awesome grill marks.
Anything aluminium will do but GrillGrates do have a very unique design. It's worth it if it's worth it to you.

I have found mine very good to finish a reverse sear, however, I put the Grillgrates on my gas BBQ because I got a quicker heat up and didn't go through heaps of pellets. Don't forget you can turn them over as well to cook, they are not just for sear lines.

Mr. White is so wise!!!

The first time I cooked a meatloaf on my Traeger, I just set it on the grill; there were 1/2" channels in the underside of the meatloaf as it sank into the grill. So, I tried using my GrillGrates for my second attempt, turning them over to create a continuous flat surface; the bottom half of the meatloaf was burned hard as a rock.

Conclusions: 1) Yes, the GrillGrates increase the temperature.
and 2) Use a flat pan to set the meatloaf on, skip the GrillGrates.

Just sayin'.......

Yep, I flip mine when searing bacon wrapped scallops. YUM.
