Howdy,
Just joined as I just got a new ranger (on 8/4 ) & I'm a 1st time smoker. Did the initial seasoning couple days ago. Did 1/2 pork tenderloin yesterday at about 200 with sweet baby ray's sauce on last 15-20 min at 350. I'd attach pic's but...it didn't last that long. Man it was GOOD! Unfortunately, the Traeger meat probe didn't work. (Luckily I had a dual probe remote Thermo Pro as back-up.) Its meat probe was perfect, ambient air in smoker was all over the board compared to display. (Up to 100 degree's off at times, yikes!) Tech support sent a link where they use my phone camera to see results of the steps they had me perform. Pretty cool & provided concrete evidence what was "not" happening & that I wasn't an idiot!
😄
Probe made a beep when plugged in but no temp displayed nor icon on left side of display indicating it was plugged in. I could tell tech was unsure of himself but they sent a new probe to start with. Should be here tomorrow. In closing, can't complain about in-depth tech support (15-20 min) & 2 day part. Still happy about purchase so far even with potential problems I've read about. Going to try ribs or whole chicken next & got pink paper to try with it.
Will follow-up.
8/9 - new meat probe arrived day late & it doesn't work at all like the original one. No difference at all. Doing chat with tech, they will send a controller. They said I'd have it "by the weekend". So much for fast service. Grrr. We'll see what happens.
8/11 - another meat probe, not controller. 🙄. The following controller was supposed to be here on the 13th, like any other parts sent, "delayed" again by 1 day....as usual. Now due on 14th. I've had the unit 10 days, used once using a remote ThermoPro dual thermometers & been trying to fix it for the other 9 days. This is not what I paid for if you know what I mean. Seems like Radio Shack quality electronics so far. From research reading, seems all these controller "basic parts" are made at the same manufacturer. We'll see what happens next. Trying not to rant, but to inform of experiences. Very discouraging so far & looks like I'm paying for a name, not quality.
However, this needs to be said,...when used with the remote ThermoPro thermometer, the unit did a fantastic job at smoking. That I'm happy about. 👍
But it's not what I paid $500+ for.
Will update further.

👍 Thank you.
Wanted to learn as much as possible on smoking on my Ranger so came here. Unfortunately I have learned the equipment I purchased has many "controller" problems. Thought it might be neg reviews given its "outstanding" name reputation,....but sadly it happened to me and they are real. So far not impressed with a new unit until it's made right by Traeger. At 10 days with no 1/2 working unit, perhaps I made a bad decision. ?

Last update. About 8/14 got a new controller finally. Simple replacement & didn't have to remove all the Ranger innards as directions say. Just removed display & disconnect all the connectors thru its hole. Meat probe worked after controller replacement. Did a test trip-tip with the probe, thermo pro dual probe & typhur sync probe. All 3 meat probes were fairly close, within 4-7 degrees when checked with an instant probe at the end. However, the Traeger ambient temp displayed was all over the board compared with the other 2. Further, after it settled down some it averaged about 35-40 degrees higher than set point. (165 = 218) As I've read here in other forums this seems to be the norm. Pretty disappointing. For $540 to buy a portable unit one would think accuracy would be better. As it stands, I'd be better off with black tape over the Traeger display & using my own thermometers. But,...that's not what I paid $540 for & it's useless. For that I'd give it 2 stars to Traeger Ranger. But lessons learned, installed felt seal on lid & use my own thermometers.
