I am torn between a new Ironwood 650 and Timberline 850. Both grills are large enough for my needs so I am not interested in a larger grill. I like the Ironwood's price and that it has a grate hanger on the back, plus the new version has a hopper sensor, but I also like the Timberline's stainless steel grates and of course the 4-wall double insulation. I also like the larger hopper capacity so when the hopper gets down to the last couple of pounds, I can empty a full bag into the hopper. But I am not sure if it is worth the extra $600. I live in the desert southwest where we have searing hot summers. The coldest days in the winter never gets below 20-25 degrees(F). The shelf on the front of the Timberline is not really a make or break for me. I do like the bamboo cutting board, but again not a make or break. Can I please get some more feedback on this? I have scoured videos and articles but am still at a loss. Thank you for all of your input.

The Ironwood is the way to go. You can get a much more functional front shelf for it and a bamboo cutting board for it. The $600 just seems crazy for what the extras are and a crappy front shelf. The hopper is still huge and with the pellet sensor included, you’ll have plenty of warning if low and it makes the ironwood that much more valuable for the $$. The only concern may be the door issues that some Ironwoods have.

And being in a hot climate, I don’t think the 4 wall insulation is necessary.

Agree with Mikey said. I have the Ironwood 650 and it's awesome. I added the front shelf, lavalock gasket on the door, a cover and have a grillgrate sear station on the way.

$600 price difference could buy a lot of accessories, pellets and meat. I think Traeger is running a promo now for the Ironwood 650 where they include a cover and 2 bags of pellets for free.

You are correct, they are running that promo! Make sure you get the model with the pellet sensor (just changed a couple months ago). Promo appears to be US only.
FREE GIFT WITH PURCHASE!
