Hey everyone,

I just put a pork butt on the traeger and it’s making a chirping noise, ever minute or so it chirps 3 times. It’s -2 here this morning so I assume it has something to do with the cold? Has anyone else experienced this or know what it might be?

Check this out,
It could also be the type of pellet you are using.

Edit: My 780 did something similar to this on one of my last cooks in the cold. The auger was making a "scraping" noise. I just paid more attention to it and looked for issues. My last cook it was warmer out and didn't make the noise.

Thanks for the info. It seems to squeak every time the auger starts to turn to let pellets into the pot. I’ve noticed as well, it only happens when it’s cold. I wonder if there’s something that can be greased with cold weather grease..

I think grease would be a huge no no because the auger is feeding fuel to fire. If enough grease gets in the auger tube it could cause a fire through the tube and into the hopper.

You’re right. I thought it might have been something mechanical behind the auger tube. I will take the auger out and clean the tube and see if that helps. Thanks for your help Timmy! Much appreciated.

Probably a pinched pellet with just enough firmness/moisture/friction to squeak. I bet it goes away after offending piece wears off or passes.
