This is kind of a weird issue. I had no problems connecting until the app was updated earlier this week. (Monday the 13th)

Now I could not get my app to connect to the Traeger at all until I tried disconnecting from my home WiFi. On WiFi when I try to connect I get a 'Connecting to Grill' message that never times out. I accidentally disabled wifi when trying to switch my phone between 2.4 and 5 Ghz networks and discovered that it connects instantly over 4G cell network.

Does anyone have any idea what would cause this? Obviously the grill itself is communicating over the internet. I have not changed any router settings, locations, etc since before the app update when everything was working fine. I also don't have any port forwarding, blocking, or anything else going on on the router.

I would reach out to your router company. If it is provided by ISP, then I would reach out to them.

No problems here..not really liking the new app though but we’ll see!!

The router is mine, but I don't believe its the issue since everything was working as of a week ago shortly before the app update.

I did double-check all of the settings though just in case and I have no type of port forwarding, firewall, blocking, etc set up or turned on. I'll see if I can try with my wife's phone tomorrow to see if there's some issue with my phone.

Saw this on another forum.

"So i have been trying to get my WIFRE connected for 3 weeks and today i made it happen! I have a router that runs 5ghz and 2.4ghz. After naming the 2.4Ghz another name with a new password it still did not work. I had to go to the advance settings and change the channel bandwith to 20MHZ in order for it to stay on a 2.4 network. i also put my phone on airplane mode and kept the grill off while it connected and it works perfect now."

My wife's phone also does not connect to it and I can't connect over cell data anymore. I've ordered new home networking equipment (unrelated, but good timing) and will report back if that fixes my problem at all.

The cellular connection is between the App device and Traeger's Cloud backend - once the grill is setup and WiFIRE is working, the App and the Grill no longer communicate 1:1, but through that Cloud backend, which acts as a broker ... this is typical of all IOT-based devices
