I read that Traeger Apple pellets are oak, alder and soy. WTH ... Maybe explains why they do not sell oak and alder anymore? I think the Apple Chips leave a crummy taste in foods.

Does anyone have further info on crappy Traeger pellets

I can't directly answer your question, but I've switched over to primarily Pit Boss pellets, and in some cases, Camp Chef or Bear Mountain. The PB in particular are 1/2 the price (usually Walmart) and for me, work much better and burn cleaner than the Traeger Pellets. I do love the grill though :)!

Read it for yourself... Here is their patent where it specifies it in the abstract: US Patent 7517371

The present invention relates to flavored wood pellets and a method of making flavored wood pellets. The wood pellets of this invention include wood particles, lubricant, and wood oil. Another aspect of the invention is a method that includes mixing wood particles with lubricant and wood oil, heating the mixture, and forming the mixture into pellets.

I've been reading a lot here about the Traeger's pellets and their lack of quality. Any risk to grill performance if I were to switch to say Pit Boss pellets? Does anyone know if PB sells alder pellets? Love alder for smoking salmon.

No one here has reported any issues with any of the other brands accept for using a 'charcoal' pellets.
Any brand is better than Traeger and makes better smoke and flavor.

Bear Mountain makes an Alder and they are even better pellet than PB

This forum is filled with Traeger pellets suck posts......because they do

I have been exclusively using Bear Mountain as they are better, half the price and convenient to me as I live close to a Tractor Supply that carries them
