Traeger buys wireless thermometer company Meater

I'm no fan of putting fat probes with radios and batteries inside a hot grill.

Too bad, I was wishing that Traeger would partner with Fireboard to produce a winning controller and temperature solution.

Oh well.
I basically said the same exact thing in the other thread.

I have 2 Meaters, last 2 times I used them, they lost connection near the end of the cook till IT... so both times they basically failed me. I'm starting to think it's the electronics in at least one of them, which means it's shot now.
Also took me about 20 minutes to get them to recognize, not real happy with them at all...

GM, dude, help me out here... you use these all the time. I don't really care tho, cuz I got FB with 7 probes

Just another observation of mine, Meater APP sucks for the way it's designed IMO. So it Traeger is going to start using Meater probes and APP, someone better get that right too, cuz it'll make for bad reviews again.

Yeah, I was thinking about that too.
I don’t own a Meater, but I’ve seen pics of the app, and I think it’s pretty bad, when compared to the Thermoworks or FireBoard apps.

As an electronics guy I can say that cooking lithium batteries is just not good for any reasonable life.

I am not impressed with Traeger's leadership.

Very hard to beat needle probes like Fireboard offers, plus a solid unit outside with a good radio and long life battery.

A Traeger controller, powered by Fireboard, with 6 temp jacks in the front would be killer. I think many would pay to upgrade to them.

Maybe a FireBoard like solution is what Traeger had in mind, when they acquired Meater. One can only hope..

Here is a picture of one of the cooks I did. Just so you can see what the app looks like. I can take one some other time of the actual cooking process. Been beaching it all week so haven’t used it in awhile and not sure when I will again but I’ll take a screenshot or two

I picked up a MEATER+ on Prime Day and ended up returning it after using it once. The app was pretty cool, but way more info than I need. I found myself checking the app every 10-15 minutes instead of just setting it and forgetting it. The charger/transmitter block seemed very poorly made. And really no Wifi/Cloud option unless you leave a spare device connected to it. I think I'm still one of the few on here that uses and trusts my Traeger probe. Traeger probe is usually 3-4 degrees lower than my MK4. The Meater was 2-3 degrees over the MK4. I bought it because the wireless feature would make it a good option for rotisserie cooks.

Yoder seemed to figure it out = use the FireBoard to control the grill.

Traeger should spend more time reading here
