Timberline XL
Hi All,
Option 1 - I can buy a Traeger from bestbuy.com. I have some leftover BestBuy gift cards that can add upto a good chunk $$$$. But when I check Traeger.com, BestBuy does not show up as an authorized dealer. Does that mean I cannot register the grill with Traeger, which means I will have No warranty. (I plan to buy the Timberline XL that comes with 10Yr warranty)

Option 2 - My neighbor got a Traeger Timberline grill as a gift/prize but he wants to upgrade to the XL. He has not registered the grill and does not know where it was actually purchased since he got it at an office raffle few months ago. So if I buy this grill from him, will I be able to register it without knowing where it was purchased. He says the website only needs a Serial number and UUID to register the grill to have the 10 yr warranty on it and does not require any receipt fo purchase.... Is this true?

Also in either of these options, does Traeger require the original receipt whilst availing any warranty based service in the future?

Thanks.
JD.

The price that my neighbor is offering for a almost new Traeger Timberline is very very enticing..... Will I have any issues registering the grill without the orginal puchase receipt since he has not registered it?

I have no idea on you friends Traeger. I would recommend going to traegers website and using the chat option and asking someone. The text to chat option is particularly convenient.

I believe the Traeger warranty only applies to the original purchaser of the grill. That does not mean purchasing the grill from your friend is a bad idea if the price is right.

It looks like purchasing from BestBuy would come with a warranty, so that is the safest option.

Good advice from @CMTiger. Also, If I'm not mistaken, if your neighbor used the grill with the WiFire app he would need to have input the UUID into the app to run the grill so Traeger would know that it is used whether he registered it or not. It is possible to run the grill manually from the grill controller but I would ask if he used the app.

Yep, I did that and they mentioned that they would/may ask for original receipt at any point in time as proof of purchase date and ownership.

@RayClem/@BobbyQ -

Thanks for your reply. After reading the reviews on the Timberline (New), there seems to be some issues with these grills (If you are unlucky) that will require Traeger warranty to come into play. The price diff between the New Vs. Old neighbors grill is ~$1200. .. The more I think about it, its does not seem worth the hassle to buy a used grill and have to deal with Traeger for warranty issues - specially for a high value item like this.

Well.... I just bought me a Traeger XL Timebrline from the local Ace Hardware. Got delivered today.... Seasoned it..... BBack Rib cooking now.... Very excited.

Thanks all.

You are correct, once it’s registered with the WiFire app then it’s registered with Traeger is what a Traeger rep told me. I have a good friend that owns a big outdoors company. He bought several Traeger 780 Pros and gave them to a few of us, friends of his. He didn’t give me a receipt nor was I going to ask for it since it was a gift. So I asked a Traeger rep that was at our local Costco a couple days later.

Ace Hardware is an official service representative for Traeger. Thus, I presume they assemble the grills with greater care than the big box stores. I was going to purchase mine from my local Home Depot, but found out I could get it delivered to my driveway by Ace for the same price as HD. I have not found any loose screws, etc. on mine.

Since you live in New Orleans, you should be able to use the Traeger for a great Cajun meal for the holidays.
