Traeger 780
Greetings:

New to the forum. I'll get right to it. I have a 1 year old Traeger 780 - have used it probably 50 times during that year. Recently cleaned out the auger, fire box, and main drum - removed all soot and old pellets. Have never used anything other than Traeger pellets, and they have never been wet or gotten moist. I don't store any pellets in the hopper after a cook to avoid condensation moisture in the wood. Firmware is up to date.

Recently, the smoker started exhibiting three problems intermittently, but frequently: 1) Long ignite times. In fact, in three of the last four cooks, I have had to go through a second ignite cycle to get it to light. 2) Temperature will never reach the programmed temp. 225 will get to about 200 or 205. 500 will get to 450. But not programmed temp. and 3) the grill will shut down in the middle of a cycle...although I won't get an error. The temperature will just start dropping on its own.

Does anyone have any thoughts? Does this sound like a problem that others have experienced? Love this smoker...but right now it's not usable or dependable. Tough to have a house full of people expecting something delicious to come off the smoker but instead hear "sorry...the Traeger is acting up tonight".

Number 1 could be the hot rod.
Number 2 is exactly what mine does
Number 3 i dont know, mine has never done this.

Now Number 2, i run a Fireboard2 and set my temp to what it says, i also dont use the Traeger food probe. I cook low and slow never going over 350f actual temp. So to me this isn't an issue.

Number 4. If you purchased the grill new it has a 3 year warranty on it. Call Traeger customer service.

And welcome to the forum!

Thank you for the quick response Timmy, and for the welcome. Plan on doing number 4 when I can next week...just was fishing for user thoughts and perspective in the meantime.

Also - if anyone else reads this and wonders - it's on firmware versionV 02.02.00, config version V 03.010
