I have an 885. my super smoke doesn’t put out much smoke compared to other Traegers I have used. Is there a problem with this grill?

If you are looking for billowing smoke, you won't see it. The smoke from the new grill is what is considered thin blue smoke. The grill is efficiency burning pellets so that it doesn't produce a harsh white or gray smoke.

I have an 885 as well and I agree. I don’t see as much smoke as on my 780 or my RecTeq. I did find that I get more smoke flavor with the bottom rack in raised position. And I do understand the supper smoke only works below 225 degrees. I must say I have been disappointed in amount of smoke and smoke flavor.

I had the Little Tex for 10 years or so and loved it. I decided it was time for an upgrade so I gave the Little Tex to my daughter and purchased the Silverton 810 from Costco last year and am pretty disappointed overall. I am going to sell it and purchase something else, not sure what to get but I am certain there are better pellet grills out there for a fraction of the price. How did Traeger let this happen!

I feel the same. I have a 885 and have never felt that anything in there comes off “smoked”. I have a WSM and you know you’re eating smoked meat off that. Smoke flavour vs convenience (and good marketing endorsements). If you want “smoke flavour”. Go with coal/wood. No substitute despite all the marketing efforts. Just saying.

I have been using my Ironwood 650 which I have had for 6 months now and I am a little disappointed with my grill. I thought there would be more of a smoke flavor or different taste in the food as compared to my Weber. Burgers, chicken breast, and fish don't really taste like they have been cooked on a grill. I have cooked a whole chicken using super smoke for about 3 hours and it was awesome! I feel like I need to do more cooking and realize that it's just a different type of cooking. I am still holding on to my Weber for burgers, brats, and chicken breast at least for a little while.

No matter what grill I owned (unless it was a pure smoker), I’d use the smoke tube. I sometimes use two tubes at once. I get A LOT of smoke. The kind of pellets also have a bearing on flavor and intensity.
