Smoking issues

So I'm not sure whats causing it, but I have the tailgater and for some reason fires up works alittle bit then just starts bellowing out nothing but smoke. I have cleaned the hopper mulitple times different pellets etc. Any help would be great

How are you starting it? Lid open or closed?

Lid open until it gets going once I turn up from smoke works for a little bit then just becomes a smoke ball. Shut it off clean it out new pellets etc. With same results

It could be the rtd or the controller. You can’t really test either, so it would be cheaper to replace rtf first. If that doesn’t work it’s probably the controller. If it’s still under warranty, call Traeger.

I’d call Traeger anyway. They might do a goodwill warranty. Idk, it’s worth a try.

In my experience, sometimes my 525 will just smoke like crazy during the warm-up period. Smoke just pours out of it and it looks as if something has gone terribly wrong. The first time it happened I freaked out - but it turns out if I just wait about 5 minutes the smoke calms down. So, unless it's actually on fire, I'd close the lid and go get a beer. My bet is that by the time you come back things will have calmed down. Best of luck.

My tailgater smokes for 5 min then stops as it heats back up to the selected temp, then smokes again then heats back up then smokes again. Keeps going like this till my meat is done It is what I expected from a smoker.

Yeah it is a smoker the difference is mine was smoking continously not changing from said setting. Their is quite a difference between smoking and smoke fuming out continously non stop. But thank you

It's all good I had to change a few things out. It finally works ok didnt mean any hard feelings. Smoke on
