My sister wanted me to come over and take her smoker. I was thinking she had a cheapo vertical, but it's a nice little rec tec 300 pellet smoker. It's about 7 yrs old and only used once. I cleaned it up and made some chicken and it did a fine job of it. It ran only about 8 deg hotter than the ambient probe. Anyway, I think the rec tec brand is probably good, at least with my initial impression. Not sure what I'm gonna do with it, it essentially is a smaller version of the 575 I have now.

I haven't seen the older models but I have family and friends who have their "normal" sized units. The overall build quality seem a lot more solid than my 780 pro. They also have a bullseye and one of the new small units (can't remember the size) but they work ok, just seem very thin and cheaply built (the bullseye and smaller units. I wouldn't want one (smaller unit) as my full time cooker but at a vacation home or campsite they seem ok.

The first thing you need to do with the Rec Tec is cook your sister a nice meal as a way of saying thanks. 😊
