Help! Power Issues

Hello Traeger Forum, a new Ironwood XL owner here (one month in), and from what I'm seeing posted frequently are many others having issues with the grill tripping the GFCI. My first occurrence after less than 15 hours cook time. Tech support sent new ignitor and wiring harness, firepot, and mother board fuses which I replaced. Did a test run for a couple of hours at 350 degrees with no issue and the powered down the grill. Proceeded to grill some fish a couple nights later and the GFI tripped again near the end of the cook cycle. Next day plugged the grill into a separate non GFI 15A. circuit. Did not trip that breaker but the grill would not start up. Now waiting on Tech Support to get back to me with "a fix". Very frustrating having a broken $2K grill just sitting there. Thoughts??

Switching from a GFCI outlet to a non-protected outlet should make no difference to the Traeger. Make sure the outlet has power. An outlet tester such as this one is a convenient way to test if the wiring is correct.

Remember that it is possible that the outlet you think is non-protected might actually be protected downstream from the GFCI.

Another common issue for no power is the power cord is not fully plugged into the bottom of the grill. I wrapped the cord around the leg of my grill to act as a strain relief after I found the cord loose a couple of times.

Thanks Ray, I completely understand that, and I have confirmed that the alternate circuit I tried was definitely not GFCI protected. On your tip regarding the cord, I did check that it was firmly connected to the grill and tried to power up again unsuccessfully.

The next element of the power chain is the on-off toggle switch near the power cord. Some folks have had these switches fail. Fortunately, they are inexpensive and easy to replace.

By any chance, do you have a voltmeter and the skill to use it safely? if so, you can check to see if you have voltage to the control board. Perhaps one of the fuses you replaced is bad.

Thanks Ray, I spoke with Traeger again on Friday, and they're going to provide a complete replacement of ALL electrical components. I'll update once installed.
