I'm fairly new to the whole smoking thing, and hope someone can lend some insight to what happened yesterday. A friend gave me his about 5 or 6 yr old Lil Tex recently. Was smoking 3 racks of ribs, a small brisket + some chicken breasts. Set the temp at 250. Everything was going fine for about the first 4 hrs. Then I noticed the temp on the Traeger display was steadily decreasing. Fan was still going, auger still functioning. The temp continued to decrease until it threw the Ler error. So I pulled off the food and the rack, drip pan and baffle. The pot was completely full of unburned pellets. To the top. That certainly didn't seem right. So I emptied out the pot and re-started the grill on smoke. The hot rod got hot and started burning the pellets. After a few minutes smoke once again came out. I re-assembled, shut the lid, turned back to 250, and everything started working again as expected. Meat back on. Fortunately almost everything was done when this issue started so it took only about 45 mins or so to finish everything. But as I was now pulling the meat off for resting, the same thing began happening with the temp -- steadily decreasing. I haven't checked yet but suspect that when I do I will once again find a pot full of pellets that haven't burned.
It seems like for some reason the pellets stopped burning, but just kept piling in. I was fortunate that things were mostly done and I was able to adjust and finish. But I have another bigger dinner coming up next weekend and don't want to go thru this again.
Any ideas what the issue could be?
thanks.
