Timberline 850
New to pellet grilling in Northern California. New timberline 850 being delivered tomorrow. Last 30 years or so have grilled on Weber gas BBQs. This will be a big change and hoping I made right decision and looking forward to first grill. watched the video and read the manual, so think Im Ready to assemble and season the grill. Then will try a couple of cornish game hens and corn on the cob.

Welcome aboard. This is the best place for info and some humor. My only advise is that have fun and even your mistakes taste good.

Enjoy it - lots of fun, and don't get stuck on using Traeger pellets. Many have found that others are just as (or better) :) I have used Pit Boss pellets that are less expensive and seem to produce good flavor/smoke.

And like you, I came from a gas BBQ, so I also picked up "grill grates" (www.grillgrate.com) to help searing of steaks etc.

Good luck!

Welcome aboard.. Have fun with it and don't kill yourself with the meat probe that comes with it... Just get a good after market probe and you will be an expert in no time.

Welcome to the Forum form the Nor Cal folks ..Timberline note's
1 - Get a Fireboard as the Timberline is precise if not accurate as to the meat probe...
2 - You will get a gradient right to left, so plan for it on your longer cooks
3 - Check out grill grates on the left for searing.
4 - I did the "RemE Timberline insulation project" made a significant difference
5 - This is a great Smoker, you will get a lot of use out of it, lots of information on the Forum...
6 - Get a cover if it is out in the elements...

In case anyone isn't aware (I believe most on here know this already), Traeger doesn't necessarily use 100% wood in their pellets. Here is their patent where it specifies it in the abstract: US Patent 7517371

That was a good read, surprised at how much soy oil plus wood flavor oils are used. Seems the primary wood used in their pellets is alder and oak, hmmm.

Not very appetizing

YES this has been rumored for some time now... but now this is proof. (y)

First- thanks for warm welcome and insights. I saw the pit boss pellets at Lowes and grabbed a bag.

Grill arrived today. Spent some time assembling, heavy so had neighbor help lift it after installing the wheels. Set up the WiFi then went thru the seasoning process.

First cook tonight is game hens and corn. used the probe (hope I don’t regret it). Currently watching smart phone app and sipping some Jack.

Welcome! Do make sure to at least double check your final product with an instant read thermometer like a ThermoPen MK4
as the Traeger probes aren't the best.

The Timberlines are heavy beasts!
