Grill
Ironwood 650
Hi, I am new to the forum and an Ironwood 650 owner for a little over a year now.

After cooking with this for over a year, I really love doing longer cooks.

But for burgers, hot dogs and steak I think it might be a bit overkill to use (cleanup, prep, mess, no good char/crust).

Do you all still own another grill to do quick cooks like burgers,
dogs and steaks?

Yes, many of us here own more than one grill/smoker. I do all of my searing on my gasser. Burgers, steaks, etc. Sometimes I’ll smoke steaks at a low temp on the Traeger, and then sear on the gasser (reverse sear).
I’m with you on the longer cooks on the Traeger…

of course I do, Weber kettle, weberQ gas, and they get used all the time!!!

Blackstone 28” griddle, Chargriller gasser, Chargriller offset, Traeger Pro 780 and Bronson 20.

I thought I would be able to replace both my old electric smokers AND my gas grill with a Timberline, but like you, I don't really like it for burgers etc.

Oh, and welcome to the forum!

My bro uses his a good bit with grill grates for burgers/steaks. I have a weber genesis gasser and have no plans to get rid of it. I’ve done burgers a few times since I’ve had my Traeger, thought about doing them on it and just fired up the Weber instead

Way easier and you don’t have to buy Grill grates.

I have Grill Grates and they didn't cook burgers or steak the same as the gas grill. Just a different texture and we like the gas grill better.

I use GrillGrates on my gasser… No flare ups. That’s the only reason I bought em.
Ribeye can be tricky to cook on a gasser without getting flare ups, at least for me.
GrillGrates stops that completely.

Welcome to the forum @JerseyQ - I have an Ironwood 650 and a Weber Genesis gas grill. I still use the Weber for most quick meals (hot dogs, burgers, pork chops, steaks, etc).

Welcome to T forum. I’m new as well. Well 3 weeks new. Haven’t done burgers, dogs yet. Thought about it. But reading all of this here I think I’ll use my Weber gas or JR Weber charcoal instead. Otherwise I’ve been using my smoker every weekend so far. Good luck.

Welcome to the forum! Probably don't need me piling on, but just to throw my two cents in, I also kept the gas grill. I tend to use the Traeger for smoking/longer cooks, but rely on the gas grill for quick turnaround and nice sear.

Happy cooking!

I'll jump in here late, too!

I was going to buy a Traeger last summer and one of the concessions I gave my wife to justify the cost was selling the Weber gas grill. Well, as luck has it my daughter won a Traeger in a sales contest and gave it to me so I kept my gas grill, and I am glad I did.

And then I went and bought a Weber charcoal kettle, and also glad I did.

So I have a Traeger Pro 780, a Weber Genesis and a Weber kettle and they all get used depending on what I am doing and the desired outcome. I have said this before but a grill is a tool, and you need to use the right tool for the job!
