I purchased a used grill Model: TFB57QLF.

When I cook, the ambient temperature on my Meater probe is significantly lower than the grill temperature. In this example, the grill temperature is 225, but the ambient temperature of my Meater probe shows 133. The cook has already been on for 42 minutes. I know they will not be an exact match, but I do not think there should be an 80 - 90-degree difference.

Before starting to cook, I cleaned the grill with a shop vacuum. I then removed all the pellets and replaced them with new ones, which are of the Traeger brand.

Any advice would help.

TIA!

You have to factor in that your meater is up against a giant hung of meat that's cold.
There are differences in the pit temp and the set temp for sure, but it may not be 80-90 degrees solely based off of the Meater reading.

I have never used a meater, while I like the idea, I just think it would be hard to get a probe that is accurate in the meat on one end and then with the ambient temp at the other. That said it would not be unheard of for a Treager probe to be off 80 degrees. Typically they are not that far off at lower temps. I am guessing like CMT said above, the end of the meater is up against a hunk of cold meat. Also different areas of the grill are going to be different. On my 780 Pro the ambient probe is on the far end of the grate. The temp over there will be quite a bit different than right above the fire pot.

I don’t trust the meater for ambient temps. Its proximity to cold meat will influence the readings, especially early in the cook. Better to have a probe in a clip for accurate readings.

I have used the meater in my oven and its within 20deg of set point, same as my 885, but you have to be aware of when the temperature stabilizes to get that reading.

Now my Ironwood XL, thats a different story.

The temperature difference might be due to the placement of your Meater probe. Ensure it's positioned in the center of the grill, away from direct heat or cool spots, for a more accurate reading. Double check that your grill's airflow isn't blocked and that the probe is calibrated correctly. Traeger grills can have uneven heat distribution, so try moving the probe to see if the reading improves. If the issue persists, Meater support might have additional troubleshooting tips. Let us know how it goes!
