My meat probe temps started going all over the place on my last cook. I calibrated a week before this as it seemed to be about 10 to 15 degrees off and my meats were slightly overcooked on my last three cooks. This last cook it went from a steady climb to 90 degrees back down to 80 then down to about 40 degrees in a matter of seconds. Has anyone ever experienced this issue and if so what is the fix? Thanks so much for your help in advance!

Thanks, but I have alternate probes and they work great. My issue is that as many say on this forum, “I paid a lot of money for this system to work properly”, but unfortunately it had been one issue after another with the WiFi and now the meat probe. I could have saved a few, many, hundreds, many aggrevaions (not sure that is a word!) with another brand. I just want my system/unit to work as advertised. 7 months in and I am just not feeling the love from my Traeger...yet.

I would just not use the Traeger meat probe for anything but a general temperature, For an accurate reading get something like a Fire Board. Much more accurate and will improve your cooks. If you don't want to go that route then use the Traeger Probe for a general guide and then a MK4 to get an accurate temperature, just remember " If you are Looking then you are not Cooking"..

You may want the Traeger meat probe to “work as as advertised”, but unfortunately that isn’t gonna happen, no matter how many times you calibrate it or have it replaced under warranty, and in fact, I don’t think I’ve ever seen an accurate probe or gauge included with any grill/smoker/pit, that I have ever owned.

If you want to quit ruining meat by over or undercooking it, use an accurate thermometer.

I’m considering selling my Ironwood 650. We do a lot of things at 400° and hire like bacon and pizzas and the hotspots in it are obvious. I too had my prob go bad

There is a fairly simple solution. I have an Enzo multi probe sensor. I put two probes next to the Traeger probe. Both Enzo’s agreed but the Traeger was off 10 degrees. Went to settings, probe, and then offset. Dialed in the difference between the probes and problem solved.

The problem with that, as most of us have found, is that the probe is not linear. It may now be correct at one temp, but probably not at another.

Thanks for the reply. I will try the Enzo probe in place of the Traeger. Interesting experiment. I always rely on my instant read anyway.

Same here, I have a calibrated FireBoard II that I use to get me in ballpark, but I always rely on my Thermapen instant read to verify, because my leave in probes may not be in exactly the right spot.

Just another "I want my probe to work" thread...

... "I paid...." (you paid about $5 for that POS probe Traeger gave us all)
