I put together a bottom shelf on my IW 885. Made out of a couple of cedar boards. I sealed them with spar urethane.

That looks a lot like the one I made. I just used cedar fence panels. Once it was done, I sprayed it with truck box liner paint. It is super durable and no worries about grease or scratches and it is weather sealed with that paint

I used cedar 1x4’s for the top of the shelf. I cut 4 pieces to 35 inches in length. I used 4 cedar 1x2’s for the bottom supports. They’re roughly 14 3/4 inches long. I spaced the 1x4’s about 1/4 inch apart. I glue and screwed them together from the bottom through the 1x2’s.

I sanded and put 2 coats of spar urethane on all of the boards prior to putting everything together.

Nice project. I started one of my own for my IW650 but I can only fit three 1x4's in. I thought both the 885 and 650 were similar depth?. Anyway, three will work I guess. By the way, did you have to remove or loosen one of the panels between the front and rear legs to fit the shelf in?

Yeah it is just resting on that bottom lip. I wouldn't put anything heavy on it.

Finally got mine installed. The sanding and coating were done in January but a bad back kept me from getting the side panel screws loosened.

Nice work!
Thanks. Even surprised me. I wasn't good in wood shop. My step V block was nothing to write home about. (Inside joke for guys who went to Brooklyn Tech High)
