Traeger XL, Traeger Jr
Hey all,
New here to the forum, but not to the Traeger world.
I've had a Traeger Jr for many years, but have always wanted something larger. We scored what I think is an older, dual controller, american made Traeger XL at a garage sale for $100 earlier this summer. The price was cheap because their family dog chewed up the wiring connections behind the front panel and they just wanted it gone.
I went ahead and re-wired everything with new molex connectors, put a longer power cord on it, and fortunately, it works like a champ!

I am having a difficult time finding anything about these dual controller models online.
What model is this grill exactly? The identification stickers are missing from under the hopper lid. For those of you who have experienced these before, what are the pros/cons of the dual controller model? So far, I am finding it difficult to get accurate temp readings when both sides are running at different temps(ex. one side set at 275, other side set at 350). Would it be possible/beneficial to upgrade this to one controller only?
Any other information and advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

It does look like a Traeger XL, but I’ve never seen one with dual controllers. Does it look like it came like that or did they modify it? Sometimes the wider grills don’t hold consistent temps throughout the whole grill. So maybe they redid it to have 2 thermostats and 2 controllers to hold a more consistent temp throughout the whole grill. Not necessarily to have 2 different temp settings.

Does it have 2 augers, 2 firepots, etc?

Yep, two augers, two firepots, seperate pellet bins for each, two RTD's. Nothing looks modified on this at all, looks like it was manufactured this way.

More pics if it helps

Whatever it is, it looks like a steal for $100. Hopefully you can find some more info.

It's certainly an XL, I'm just wondering if it's a very early model? Everything is welded on this, the only screws are for the front panel, and the lid hinges!
Finding the link to the XL manual was a help though, the wiring diagrams showed exactly how they wired one controller up to the two firepots.. just in-case I ever decide to do that down the road.

That grill is a Traeger XL Commercial Grill, the largest grill Traeger makes that is not mounted to a trailer. It can smoke up to a 70lb hog. I believe it has one 836 sq inch rack. This grill, along with the other Traeger Commercial Grills, has not been listed on the Traegergrills website for a while. I don't know if they are discontinued or sold out.
