Fireboard 2/Thermapen

I did ask but they don’t even stock them. I will have to unfortunately upgrade in the future if I need to. I will check out the difference but hopefully the basic probes will do the job!
I have both probes.
Based on my limited experience, I think the provided probes will work best for bigger cuts of meat such as a roast although they will awkwardly work for smaller cuts of meat.
Due to their length, ideally, you want to insert the probe maybe 3 inches into the meat so that it stays in place.
The competition probes are smaller both in length and width.
They will best go into a whole chicken, chicken parts and maybe 1 to 4 in. thick steaks.
IMO, You will be fine with the provided probes but it is nice to have both types.
Grill on !

Thank you for the additional details. As expected really. I am hoping that due to the accuracy right from the tip of the probe according to reviews, that if I can find a way to insert in to smaller foods, pork ribs, burgers, chicken parts and the like that I will still get good use and readings. Fingers crossed! And of course should have no issue on butts and briskets etc.

The comp probes go between ribs nicely!
Yes they do... And they are much easier to insert in the grill grommet. I’ve only used the standard probes once, but that was enough to realize how much better the comp probes are.

As previously stated , “If your looking, your not cooking”
FB2 standard with competition probes, if placed with order they will remove the standard standard probes, and give you a credit.
I use 2 ambient probes and as many as 4 meat probes.

Below 220 my Treager grill probe is within 1 degree of the FB Ambient probe. Then about 350 there is a 40 dregee difference.
FB is the way to go….

I'm not sure that is the case any longer, at least when I ordered back in Feb. I traded several emails with the CS team and the answer was a solid "no" so I had to buy the comp probes separately. Hope others have better luck!

I think they saw a huge growth last year in their business and sales. At the beginning of the year and through summer, requests like that were manageable, as many on here were able to have them switched out for a minimal charge for the difference in price between the two styles. I am guessing that they grew too much to continue with the handling special requests like that.
Be nice if they offered a complete unit with the the different style probes at the point of purchase. That would make it simpler for everyone.

Agree completely. It sounded like everything was already kitted up and ready to ship. They simply didn't want to take something off the shelf and re-kit. From a business process standpoint I have to agree with them. And yes, they should offer the comp probes as a different SKU, or kit, as well. They are much better than the standard probes.

Looks like my future may have more probes in it then ha ha. Yeah would be good if they did a premium pack option with the competition probes.

Bigger problems ahead of the weekend as pellet order got cancelled today. Let’s hope I see the weekend through with what I’ve got ha ha.

Don’t you have a local Home Store that carries pellets?

No in the UK most of the main retailers are garden centres or bbq stores around the London area, unfortunately not near me. A department store stocks some bits as they sell the grills but been out of stock for a while now, as has Amazon. Lots of online retailers but no where for a quick purchase! Most take a few days. Other non Traeger pellets seem a little more regularly available, hopefully things will pick up as popularity has.

Are you just looking for Traeger pellets.
Many of us here use Pit Boss. They are half the price, more readily available, and IMO, produce much better smoke. Walmart sells them here for 9 bucks a bag

Yeah new to the pellet game and so I was unsure if I should mix different brand grill and pellets or not. Thanks for the tip, I’ll check it out! Thanks for your continued help!

Quick check and pit boss seems to be the same price. Must be due to importing.

Depends on where you get it. Pit Boss bags certain pellets flavors for Walmart and Lowe’s. The very same pellets at Amazon and other places are twice the price.

Thanks. As I say very limited stockists here but I’ll keep searching. Cheers. Think too heavy/costly to order with international shipping.
