Dumb mistake I made. I bought a smoke tube to add some extra smoke. Works great. But if you’re getting out of control temperatures, it may not be the trigger. My dumb mistake was putting the smoke tube on the right hand side of the great and the temp probe is right there! I was getting high readings because of the smoke tube underneath the temperature probe. Just thought I’d put it out there in case anybody makes the same mistake.

I know the spelling errors I was using speech to text.

It's a problem only if the wood is burning. If it is smoking then it hardly adds any heat. Make sure you put the fire out before adding the tube to the grill.

Like said, the smoke tube should be smoldering. As you stated though, keep it away from the ambient probe because it will mess with the traeger temperature. I’ve got a 780 Pro and I use an extended smoke tube along with 2 modified large smoke boxes. I don’t have any temperature issues from the smoke tubes but I don’t monitor my ambient temperature anymore, it was driving me nuts with the temperature fluctuations. I mainly do low and slow with butts and ribs so I set mine on 235 and probe the meat then let it do its thing. Welcome to the forum!
