I am new here. Be easy on me 😊
Am I suppose to empty the hopper after every cook? I was told NOT to leave pellets in the hopper while not in use.
Thanks!

I haven't emptied mine in over a year.

You live in Indiana, no issues with humidity so I'd say NO

I leave them in as well...somlong as they don't get too much moisture, it's fine in my experience.

I also leave them in.
But the Traeger lives under a covered patio & protected by 3 exterior walls.
I also keep it covered when not in use.
Pellets always look like they just came out of the bag.

Yes, I as well have mine under a covered porch with three exterior walls and a Traeger cover when not in use. I find that it was time consuming having to empty the hopper after every cook. Thanks!

I empty mine all the time, but only through cooking. My Traegers are covered when not in use and I go through so many pellets I don't bother. I only use one kind, B&B Championship Blend, so no changing them out either.

What is B&B pellets?

I only empty my hopper for cleaning or maintenance. I also don’t overfill, I only have two runs or so of pellets in there at any time.

The only time I had a problem was 2 weeks between usage and rain almost every day (in Florida).

I do empty the hopper, clear the auger and vacuum out all that dust every couple months or do.

Also never remove unused. I cover after every smoke as soon as cooldown is done and it's semi covered (under a tree on a patio). We had one period of 3 days with extremely hard rain. After that, it took a little longer than usual to ignite, but no ill effects.

I used to clear the auger after every cook but I haven't done that in...man, I have no idea when! I still do dump all the pellets I can out of the back door, though. It's an easy enough process and doesn't take but a few mins.

I'm fairly new to the pellet smoker as well and I fretted about this at first too. I've been at it for a few months now and have never emptied mine and I haven't had any issues.

Only time I ever emptied mine was to get rid of the Traeger pellets I bought with the smoker. That was the first time I used it. Been using Cookin' Pellets hickory ever since.
