I've seen quite a few YouTube reviews saying Lumber Jack are great. Thus far I have only used Traeger branded pellets; keeping that the same while I vary other things like rubs, cook time, wrap-time, etc.

I've heard that Lumber Jack and Knotty Wood generate a better (smokier) result.

What is your take? Thanks for any input.

I used them for a long time but then my local Rural King stopped selling them and switched to their own brand (and they weren't as good). Can't find them locally any longer.

My local Farm and Fleet stores sells Lumber Jack, but it is about 15 miles away, so I do not get there very often. I picked up 8 x 20# bags on sale a few weeks ago. I have used one bag of 100% cherry. Most brands are blends with cherry mixed with a base like oak. I was pleased with the results and would purchase them again.

I have not tried enough of them to say whether they are superior to Bear Mountain pellets which I have used for much of the past summer. They are both good.

Lumber Jack pellets are produced by Great Lakes Renewable Energy in Hayward, WI, not far from Lake Superior. Northern Wisconsin is heavily forested.

Hi I have a Traeger and have tried many types of pellets over the past year. I would rank Lumber Jack and Manchester Barbecue pellets as best, Bear Mountain as very good followed by Traeger and then Pit Boss. This is based on flavor. Also, it seems like the better pellets may last a little longer (maybe due to lower ash content?) so a 20 lb bag seems to go farther. Definitely smoking the turkey this Thanksgiving!
