Traeger 780
We live in the boonies and are limited on our internet services. T Mobile recently put up a tower 1/2 mile or less from my house and my neighbor has their wireless internet. He gets great speeds so I have ordered it. I did confirm their router has 2.4 and 5 ghz signals but I also know the Traegers can be a bit picky. As long as my speeds are the same as my neighbors (or even close) and my security cameras and Traeger connects OK I'll be set. I jus really hope my 780 will connect to it without any issues. I have had it for over a year and so far I have not had any internet issues that some others have had.
My current provider charges 60.00 per month and I get about 5 mgbs download speed. T Mobile is 50.00 a month unlimited data and my neighbor is getting over 100 mgbs download speed. Best thing is they have no fees for the equipment, no installation and no cancelation fees if it doesn't work. They also said their "no contract" includes a lifetime price. No matter how fast their speeds get my price will always be 50.00 per month. Seemed too good to be true but my neighbor loves it. Ill know in a couple days. I called them they are shipping me the stuff and and if I like it it's 50.00 a month, if it doesn't work as advertised or I am ever not happy just quit paying it and we are done.

Good news: I got my new T Mobile internet today and hooked up and my grill and home security cameras connected right to it. So far so good, speeds are lightning fast. I am going to keep my old service running too for a few weeks just to make sure. My first speed test with T Mobile had a download speed of of 180 meg and upload speed of 98. Better than the 3-5 I was getting before.

Now I Just need to figure out why one of my laptops cant see it. Everything else in the house connected fine and the laptop I use daily can't see the modem.......

Internet service is provides using two pieces of equipment. One is the modem that Modulates your outgoing signal and Demodulates the incoming signal whether your service is over a plain old telephone system line, a DSL line, a coax cable, or wireless cellular. The second piece of equipment is a router that takes signals from the modem and distributes them to the equipment throughout your house using either Ethernet wires or WiFI. In many cases, your Internet Service Provider includes both the modem and the router in a single box.

The connection from the Traeger controller to the Internet is made using the 2.4 gHz WiFi band on your router. The Traeger never "sees" what type of Internet connection you have between your modem and the Internet Provider. It simply does not make any difference what type of connection you have. One potential issue is that many routers are set up using the same SSID for both the 2.4 gHz and 5 gHz WiFi bands (and even the new 6 gHz band if you have a WiFI 6e router). In theory, this is great as you can use the same SSID and password for all connections and devices will connect to the fastest band they are capable of using. The problem with this system is that setting up the WiFI connection on the Traeger requires that your cell phone be connected to the 2.4 gHz WiFi band. If 5 gHz WiFi is enabled on your smartphone, it will always connect to the faster 5 gHz band.

If you ISP provides you with administrative access to the router, you can go in and temporarily disable the 5 gHz radio and then connect your cellphone to the 2.4 gHz WiFi band and set up the Traeger. If you do not have access to the router setup, you can try to disable 5 gHz networking on your smartphone and then try to setup the Traeger.

I like having separate modems and routers. That gives me greater control of how they operate. However, that means I need to understand how they function. If you have multiple devices that must connect to 2.4 gHz WiFi, I strongly recommend that you use a separate SSID for the 2.4 gHz and 5 gHz bands. For example, they might be My_WiFI_24G and My_WiFi_5G. You can still use the same password for both. In my home, the washer, dryer, Traeger, and home automation devices such as fan controllers, Ring doorbell, and Wiz smartbulbs are connected to 2.4 gHz WiFi, so having separate SSIDs is a big advantage during setup.

T Mobile just became available in our area so switch over. Not been able to connect to grill since. Any tips or tricks?
I’ve had T-Mobile home internet for a couple years. About 6 months ago they sent us the newest 5g unit. Just one round box and I’ve been getting between 200 to 300 mps. It’s awesome. The thing you have to do is also set up the 2.4 gh then add it to your phone too. Then you have to have both, your phone and the Traeger on the 2.4. It works perfectly. You’ll have to set it up on your T-Mobile app just like you did for the 5g. You can Google it and find the exact instructions to guide you through, that’s what I did because I couldn’t figure it out by their instructions. I live in a very rural area and I don’t even have access to a landline phone much less any wired internet. It’s amazing how fast it is, I had Spectrum at my last house about 6 years ago, this T-Mobile home internet is more reliable.

Glad your getting some answers. All l can add is at I connected my Traeger last and have not had any connection issues since.
On an unrealted note I just got another T Mobile account for a college house I just bought for my daughter. Same deal, 50.00 a month and she's getting 300+mbps download speeds.
