Timberline 1300 - how often do you have to prime grease trap?

What exactly is the purpose of doing this? I questioned on their youtube video, though never got a response.
I suspect that this provides a "smoke trap" similar to a J Trap in a sink.

I know my newer TL850 has a gasket sealed drip drawer to prevent the grill gasses from flowing thru the drawer. Maybe the earlier models handled this a different way. I'd need pictures of that area to confirm this.

I am assuming the purpose of priming the grease trap with water is to ensure there are no blockages throughout the entire grease management system. That's why its a one-time process. Any blockage within the grease management system will certainly cause a fire inside your grill once it reaches the fire pot
