Stack cap position

I have a pro series 22. I was watching troubleshooting videos where I saw that the smoke stack cap should be 1 inch above the opening. However, I can not find anywhere in the manuals stating that. Does the cap have to be 1 inch above the stack?

A couple of years ago I called Traeger about a small problem with my 22 and I asked about the stack cap position. She told me, “always open as far as possible.” Mine has been like that ever since, now approaching three hundred cooks.

I too called Traeger and was told put the cap a thumb width separated. The thumb width is with the nail ro the side. Do I adjust the nut on the cap screw so it is at the position of my thumb width?

I think I rotated the whole cap up or down.
