I have a Timberline 850 and the last two uses I just get a bunch of smoke coming from around the lid. Before I used it this time I took it all apart and vacuumed out the whole thing. Cleaned the grease tray and drain. Put on a new liner and tody it just smoked a whole bunch from around the lid. Nothing out the backside.

The grill vents into the back box thru two small ports on the rear right and left, just below the grill grate, are these ports clear? Those are the only exhaust exits in the grill, then up into the back box.

Sometimes my door will leak a little smoke, I just push it closed a little harder to compress the door gasket. Make sure that all the door gasket clips are in place and that the gasket isn't out of position.

I also like to wipe a smear of silicone grease around the door frame to allow the door seal to close smoother.

All ports are clear. Now, the only other thing is I ran out of Traeger pellets and used some Lumber Jack. Coincidence? I also have a lot of ash on the outside of the barrel when I'm done.

My experience with Lumberjack was a good amount of smoke, better than most pellets I've used. But it was the most ash created as well. I haven't had as much ash from any other pellets. So the ash on the barrel could just be from the pellets used.
Try a different brand of pellets, see if you have the same ash on the barrel.

I get ash on the outside of my barrel after most cooks of any duration. After cool down and before covering, I wipe down the outside of the grill with one of those lint free cloths to clean any ash off.

If the door is straight and the seal is intact, there should be no smoke coming out from the door. Different pellets smoke different amounts, and as RustyJake says, different amounts of ash, so probably no worries there.

Thank you I'm going to buy some more Traeger pellets and run a little test.
