I was wondering, based on the problem people are seeing with inaccurate thermocouples... Has anyone tried to retrofit a 3rd party probe like one of these? The plug looks similar... https://www.thermoworks.com/tw-113-442-gc/

I'm tempted to get one of these and see if it works better...

A couple things you might want to consider. The Silverton 620 has a mounting bracket that appears to be attached with two screws on the interior of your unit. If you replaced the thermocouple probe end you might have to drill out the old one and reseal the new one into the metal protector tube. The other thing, would be making sure your new one has the correct connector that plugs in your controller. Amazon sells some after market replacement thermocouples for about $38.00, that appear to have good reviews. Just a thought. Welcome to the forum, Great folks and Great recipes.

Remember that not all thermocouple probes have the same calibration curve. That can be either a good thing or a bad thing. I did not like the Traeger internal meat thermometer so I tried several probes I had from other remote thermometers I had purchased over the years. None of them would work, even though they had 1/8" plugs.

Thus, if you do purchase a replacement, I would suggest purchasing one that states that it works with the Traeger D2 controller. However, the results might not be significantly different than the original.
