Hello,

I have had a Pro 34 for about a year now, and recently it seems that all of my smoking sessions are taking way longer than usual. My first thought was the ambient temp is low, but the temperature display is pretty accurate with the setpoint temp. So I decided to check with a temperature gun, just to verify. It clocked roughly ~100 degrees (f) when the display on the grill said ~275 degrees. I checked temperature after the grill was on for a few hours.

Any idea was is going on? It seems that the actual temperature and the displayed temperatures are way off.

Thanks.

If you read other forum posts, you will find that the controller temperature is often different than the actual temperature. Measuring the temperature with an infrared thermometer might not give accurate readings due to differences in emissivity of various parts of the grill. Get yourself an inexpensive analog oven thermometer or one of the digital wired or wireless thermometers to measure the temperature. Just make sure the temperature probe does not contact any metal when making measurements.

Digital thermometers come in a wide range of price levels. Some of the members here love their more expensive ThermoWorks, Meater, and Fireboard thermometers. I have found ThermoPro devices to be less expensive, but still adequate for my needs. If you are on a budget, there are even less expensive devices that can be used successfully. They might not have all the features of their more expensive rivals, but they can get the job done.

Have you cleaned the grill's temperature probe? Buildup of grease/ash/etc can cause it to not read properly.
