How to tell which is better. I usually use treager, but I seen i good deal on Bear mountain mix blend. Never tried them but seen some good reviews. So I tried it. Think they were old was hard getting the smoker up to temperature. So what do you like.

So far on my pellet smoker journey I’ve used Traeger, B&B and H‑E‑B store brand. No complaints with any of them.

I tried a few of the higher priced pellets when I first started not realizing how many pellets I would burn up. Fortunately my local butcher sells Smoke Ring brand pellets which are a quality pellet and they only charge $15.00 for a 40 lb. bag.

I’ve tried them all and haven’t seen any difference in the way they burn or the flavor. I’ve been using Costco’s Kirkland brand for over a year now and they haven’t disappointed me but they definitely saved me $.

My goto brands are Bear Mountain for blends and Lumberjack for pure woods. Many brands use a base wood like alder or oak and then use a percentage of the named wood. These two brands, which are produced in Wisconsin, do not, unless of course you purchase oak pellets.

Living in the UK pellet choice quite narrow and purchase price high but all things considered I go for Cookin Pellets, Bear Mountain, BBQr's Delight and Traeger in that order. Cookin Pellets seem to have the least dust, a longer burn and don't contain fillers. Generally there is little difference in flavour to my mind with a couple of exceptions.

Having said that quality also depends on how the pellets have been handled, stored and for how long. My latest delivery of Cookin Pellets contained a bag that had partially split and the pellets looked like they had been in a tumble drier, loads of dust and shrapnel whilst the other bags were just fine so there are quite a few variables to be aware of!

I've been very happy with Kingsford pellets. I particularly like the oak/cherry/ hickory blend. Very little dust.
