ironwood 885
Just got my new ironwood 885 today. If you leave the pellets in the hopper will the pellets expand in the auger and cause any problems? I live in Massachusetts and the weather get very cold.Any other tips for a 1st time pellet owner. Thanks

NO, I haven't emptied my hopper or auger in 18 months

And BTW,

I don't empty it out either. I think I only once swapped the pellets for taste but as most will tell you, the different type of wood taste is not that noticeable. It's extremely important that no water gets into the hopper. Getting the cover that goes with the grill is a must.

I too keep pellets in the hopper all the time, with the grill properly covered. I tend to use the Pit Boss Competition Blend or Classic Blend, switching to Hickory/Cherry, and Apple/Fruitwood (for pork/bacon). Often times, I'll use 1 or 2 smoke tubes with a different pellet as those generate a nice amount of smoke!

I think I’m going to buy hickory and that’s it.

Brisket? Hickory!
Pork shoulder? Hickory!
Fish? Yup…Hickory!
Hickory for almost all smoke, otherwise it's the B&B Championship blend for cooking & smoking.

Stopping by Buc-ee's on the way home on Friday to pick up four 40# bags. Can't beat $14.99/bag.

Stopped by TWO Buc-ee's this week. The one in Fort Worth had no pellets except Jealous Devil Jax which cost $14.99 for 20# so I stopped at the one in Temple and they were down to the last 3 bags of Post Oak from B&B, but plenty of the pricey Jax.

Has anyone tried Jax yet? I bought one to try, but I think much of the price is in the fancy packaging. We'll see.
