Grill
Timberline 1300 & 850
I had an overheat incident in my brand new timberline 850. This is my third Traeger grill, current have the 1,300 and 850. Never had serious function problems but 850 is acting badly. Overheated till 560 last night when set to 450. After overnight cool down and thorough clean and vacuum now won’t preheat properly. This is my third attempt at abnormal preheat. Sits stalled at ambient environment temp then suddenly races to 425-450 when set to 200. Seems to settle 100 degrees over set temp. Any ideas?

Mine also seems very little smoke, even on super smoke settings. I’m think it’s the controller. Hopefully traeger helps me out when I call.

I had similar, slow start then temp overshoot. Traeger sent me a new firepot/hotrod assembly which cured my issue.

It may be a product problem, or your operation is not correct. Has the problem been solved?

No still happening but I do not have the time to sit on hold on the Traeger helpline right now. Catching up to this thread now for the first time, I think I need either the controller or the hot rod and fire box. I have had Traeger’s 4 years with no problems the small ironwood is my first problem.

Having the same problem with a brand new 850 timberline , not sure what to do. Got it from ace and not sure if I should call them or the traeger

It will probably be a call to Traeger. ACE has noticed been known to be much help, but yours might be different.

Do be sure to verify that you have the latest firmware and config software. They really tamed the startup temp overshoot issues with latest versions.

I agree, you may need to let your grill sit in SLEEP mode for days before you get totally updated, once you do then you might see the improvement.

I will add, if the temp spikes, briefly open the hood to halt the spike and prevent possible paint damage.

Sounds good, not sure how to but will look into that and the sleep mode. Tired popping the lid as well, pretty sure that saved the paint on the out side, but the inside grease canal paint already came off

There is no hope for the drip channel paint, way too hot, just scrape it and wipe with grate oil to hold off rust.

Go into grill settings, about. Snap a picture of the grill info and attach here.

Standby is when the grill main power is on, but the controller is off. It can take a week or more to update.

Call Traeger. They will warranty the repairs, and ACE probably services the grills. That has been my experience.

Called ace not much there as you mentioned,
Traeger thinks I start it up wrong so they want to do a live stream, any one live stream their start up before ?
those new timberline seems like pretty easy to start up
