Newer Ironwood Drip Tray Liners available

Not sure if this is new, or just new to me but today I received an email from Traeger about drip tray liners for the newer Ironwood series.

These are a horrible idea. I really wish Traeger would discontinue all of their liners. They dont attach well to the drip trays and are too thick so they bowl up and hold the grease on top of the tray making it a fire hazard.
DO NOT USE TRAEGER LINERS

Thats why you clean your grill more often, especially on a newer generation ironwood. I hardly use my XL because its a pain in the butt to clean. I have not cooked on the grates for about two years and only use it as a smoker. My 885 is my workhorse, it has grill liners and no fire hazard at all, but it’s maintained correctly.

Your Ironwood 885 probably has a warped drip tray by now. Let me know when you want that replaced. I build heavy stainless steel drip trays and heat shields for Traegers.
Advantages are
No more rusting
No more warping
And because of the material your heat is more consistent.
No more hotspots

My 885 tray is fine, it sits in the holder just fine. I cook year round down below -20c, and is 8years old. Only changed one firepot.

I am Looking forward to the drip tray liners for my XL, I have told traeger that they were needed years ago. It would be nice not to cook in pans on it.

He speaks the truth. I bought one of Shawn’s drip trays about 5 years ago. It is still like brand new. Works like a charm.

When the new generation Timberline and Ironwood's first appeared the company line was (and still is on the UK website):

"We’ve designed the Ironwood be our easiest grill to clean. Our funneled drip tray provided edge-to-edge coverage and not only captures all dripping and excess, but funnels it into one easy-to-access container along with the ash form the pellets. Covering the drip tray with anything, including foil or liners, will significantly impact the performance of the grill and could damage the drip tray or grill."

Now, in a U turn worthy of a politician all of a sudden a Traeger drip liner (but not a knock off copy or foil apparently?! ) is not only acceptable but encouraged which sort of makes a mockery of the much lauded grease Ez-Clean system!

Took them a while to realise they were losing income by cutting out drip liners methinks? At around £5 each in the UK I will give them a miss until some knock off versions appear, either that or Costco's finest foil!
