Grill
Mesa 22
Hi Everyone,

Just bought my first pellet grill last night. It's a Mesa 22 from Costco. Any tips?? I'm also curious to know everyone else's experience with this grill, or the Pro 22, as I think they are quite similar.

I have owned the Pro22 for about a year. My experience has been awesome once I got a few thing figured out.

First the temps would swing like mad, after experimenting my final fix was to adjust the stack cap, I think I lowered it about 4 1/2 turns from factory setting. It now maintains temp great and even seems to produce more smoke. I will say it will still reach max temp of about 450 but might take a little longer to get there.

I have noticed if I smoke in a shaded area maintains temps very well. Anytime I smoke in direct sunlight the temps seem to run higher than the setting.

I did have 1 grease fire, I smoked a pork shoulder and some pork ribs, a couple people wanted burgers, I made the mistake of turning directly to 400 degrees and ended up with a fire. Now I work the temp up slowly allowing the grease to slowly burn off without catching fire.

Should be a great entry level smoker. I have smoked a lot of great meat on mine.

Haven't cooked on it yet. Just seasoning it right now. Seems to work well. I bought an inkbird IBBQ Bluetooth temperature monitor. The temperature from the inkbird probe, which I set a few inches above the grill gate was within 2 degrees of the temperature indicator on the Traeger control panel. Temperature seems to max out around 435 degrees F. It's about 8 degrees C (45 F) outside, and pretty windy.
