I've been helping a neighbor with a Gen 1 Pro 34 he received used. He couldn't get the temp over 290°, so I thought I'd take a look. I pulled it apart, vacuumed all the ash out, and put some of my pellets in the hopper (they've always worked fine in my smokers) to eliminate as many variables as possible. I lit it off and progressively increased the temp. The temp was consistently anywhere from 40°-60° (or more) below whatever the control knob was set for (105° when set to "smoke", 135° when set to 180°, etc.). The max temp was only 365° when set to High. An improvement, but still way off.
I wasn't sure if the RTD sensor might be the problem but it would seem that the controller would increase the pellet output until the RTD reading matched the knob setting. That leaves the controller itself. Is there a bias setting that can be adjusted? Replace the controller? Other thoughts?
