LavaLock on silverton 620

I just purchased a Silverton 620 and would like to put a nomex gasket on the lid. Should it be applied to the lid, the base, or both for the best results?

I applied it two strips on the sides and on the top/bottom. Works great and used a razor blade to get the backing off the tape.

Does the strip on the back result in more force on the rear hinges? My lid sits flush on the "barrel" and I imagine the back strip causing the back to be forced up. Is this the case?

i haven't noticed that to be the case. I did some some slight seepage of smoke prior to installation of tape around the edges. After a few cooks - the leaks have stopped. hope this answered your question.

I was wondering the same thing, lid or base. On my 620 I did a combination - added Lava Lock on the base at the front and sides. (Rather than cut around or make gaps for the lids two rubber feet plugs I just took them off and let the lid sit fully on the gasket instead.)
On the back top area of the grill, the metal is bent back over itself and leaves an uneven area to apply, so I instead added the gasket to the top inside of the lid. Maybe either location would have been fine? The top areas near the back and sides did not have a super tight fit anyway so there are still gaps after the gasket is on. I'm letting the glue cure per instructions so not sure how well it works yet, but am hoping it drives a little more smoke to the downdraft ports instead of all the lid/base gaps like before. Here's what I did with my 650. I had the stuff from mods I'd done to my Weber Smoky Mountain a few years ago, and, I just never really throw anything away. It definitely stopped the smoke from exiting anywhere other than the exhaust area.
