Grill keeps blowing out

My Pro 22 keeps losing fire. Sometimes it will work for 3-4 hours, then blow out. It's clean, running new pellets, warm and non-windy conditions. When I open it up, the firebox is full of pellets, but the grill shows an LER error and is not burning. Suggestions? Thanks!

Once the grill is running, the hotrod is off, and out of the equation. Then it's the controller, fan, auger that are keeping the flame. The auger is working since the pot gets packed. I'd check the entire air path and fan first.

I'm thinking that it's starving by either lack of air or maybe the auger is binding and maybe too slow, fuel starving till flame out, but still slowly fills the pot after flame dies.

LER - LOW ERROR READING​

A Low Error Reading, of LEr, is an error message you may see on an AC platform Grills (non-WiFIRE-enabled), except the 2017 AC Timberline 850/1300. Getting this message means that your grill dropped below 125 degrees for more than 10 minutes and caused the grill to shut off.

COMMON CAUSES​

  • Empty firepot
  • Only ash in firepot
  • Firepot too full
  • RTD temperature sensor issue
  • Cold ambient temperature
  • Chimney height
  • Induction fan problem
  • Windy weather
  • Poor pellet quality
  • P-Setting adjustment

RESOLUTION​

  1. Turn off and unplug the grill and wait for it to cool before proceeding.
  2. Remove the grill grates, drip tray, and heat baffle and check the Firepot.
  3. If the Firepot is completely empty or only has ash inside, it means the grill ran out of pellets at some point
    • It is possible that there was a section within the auger that had no pellets, causing the fire to go out when the auger reached that section.
      • On small cavity AC grills (Junior, Tailgater, Bronson), there could be tunneling in the hopper--pellets are not able to make it into the auger even if there are pellets in the hopper.
      • Clean the Firepot and restart your grill.
      • See Grill Start-up/Shut-Down Guide to find the proper startup procedure for your grill.
  4. If the firepot is full of pellets, it usually means that the fire went out during your cook.
    • This may happen occasionally and isn’t a major concern unless it happens frequently.
    • Please follow the steps below to try and resolve the issue.
      • Ensure you follow the proper startup procedure as improper startup can affect your cook, even hours into the cook.
      • Verify that you are using good quality pellets (shiny, not crumbling)
      • Clean out your Firepot of any excess pellets and/or ash.
  5. Verify that your RTD temperature sensor isn’t damaged.
    • Check to see if it is bent or touching anything inside the grill.
  6. Ensure your grill/RTD is reading the ambient temperature accurately.
    • Compare the temperature on your controller when you first turn it on to the temperature outside.
      • The two temperatures should be within +/- 10°F degrees of each other.
  7. Check your chimney.
    • You should be able to fit a thumb between the chimney and the cap.
    • If your grill has a chimney, make sure that the cap is at the right height.
      1. Check the chimney to ensure it isn’t blocked with soot and buildup.
        1. Clean the chimney as needed.
  8. Check the induction fan on your grill.
    • You should be able to hear this fan when starting your grill.
    • f there is no sound, it sounds weak or is making squeaking noises, try to manually spin the fan to break up any grime.
      • If the fan still seems to be weak, please contact Customer Service @ 1-800-TRAEGER.
  9. Cold weather makes a difference.
    • f the weather is too cold, your grill may have issues reaching and holding the proper temperature.
  10. Is it particularly windy? * Gusty and/or consistent strong winds can make it difficult for all grills— but especially small grills— to maintain temperatures.1. In windy weather try to locate the grill in a spot where it is shielded from the wind.

  11. P-Settings (Pause setting) * The P-Setting (Pause setting) is used on some older grills, and is used to help monitor the temperature of the grill when experiencing extreme cold or hot temperatures. * Try adjusting the P-Setting to a lower number if the ambient temperature is low.
