Hi guys,
I'm a new owner of a traeger pro 575. I used it a couple of times and i already love it.

Today i cleaned the auger using the function inside the traeger menu. It took about half an hour to catch out all pellets from the tube.

I was thinking... The prime function is almost the same: it fills the auger with pellets when it's empty and it tooks only few minutes.

So, at the same time, could i use it to clean the auger keeping the hopper empty from pellets? It has almost the same goal?

Thanks

I just empty the hopper as much as possible and throw in the the pellets I want that night. By the time it heats up up you are using the new pellets any way.

I’ve had my C885 almost 3 months now. Cleaned out the auger once using the clean auger button. Probably didn’t need to but I thought there would be a lot of pellet dust inside I wanted out. And there was. I used my small shop vac to vacuum the pellets as they came out and then when finished I blew the rest out. I don’t think there’s a need to do this every cleaning. Maybe a semi annual cleaning?

Thanks for the answers. Anyway my english is not so good and maybe i didn't explained well :-)

The question is: can i use the prime function (that tooks about 3 mins) to clean the auger instead of the "clean auger" function? It does almost the same but in really 3 mins.

Thanks

Yes I believe so

If you just want to remove pellets from the auger, then the prime auger function will be a better option.
The clean auger setting will run the auger in reverse and then forward for a set amount of time. I believe it was designed to clear auger jams. Although it may work to empty the auger chamber, it may take a bit longer with the reverse/forward action from the clean function.

Yeah, that's what he's trying to do

multiple times and why... I don't know but that's his Q

Traeger maybe should have titled the clean auger to 'clear auger'. Might have been easier to understand what it's function is then.
Either title is still ambiguous, and wouldn't be 100% for interpretation.

Thanks for the answers.

I'm not trying to do it multiple times. I was just asking how to do it only because, unfortunately, i don't use it very often and i was planning to clean out pellets completely when not used (sometimes even for 2 weeks) to avoid moisture problems (we're going toward winter).

I was thinking the same. The different moving of the auger when using the cleaning function seems to be used when there is some jam inside. I believe the prime function is better when i want to empy it all.
