I am think about going with the Pro 575. I was wondering if anyone has the WiFi smoker and is it worth the extra money. If anyone had any experience with the Pro 575 and your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

YES, it's worth getting the Wifi D2 575 than the pro 22

My problem is the wifi is the greatest strength to having the wifi is coupling it with the built-in Traeger temperature probe. These two features combined allow you to be notified of the temp of your cook and monitor it, however, the Traeger temperature probe is basically useless due to it being off so much in temperature. Other than that the wifi is just going to tell me if my pellets are low, that the grill has gotten to start-up temp or shutting down or annoying messages about time to clean the grill. The greatest reason to have the wifi is ruined by Traeger's useless temperature probe.

I disagree, the greatest reason is the controller is better, better 5° stepping, and the convenience to change the temp anytime from your phone, not to mention monitoring.

Traeger's Probe is easy to handle with 3rd party probes which any serious BBQer should have anyway to monitor their meat and ambient temp.

Is it possible to use another probe other then Traeger!

Not only is it possible, it is highly recommended - mandatory, even. The Traeger probes have been know to be off by upwards of 25 degrees and I've seen some people say 40! You should go with an Inkbird or Fireboard (depending on budget and functionality desired) as well as an instant-read such as the Thermoworks MK4.

I think the question from @Dquallo was/is: will another brand of probes that are more accurate plug into the traeger?

And, I agree on a standalone remote thermometer and a good instant read.

I use InkBird as a 3rd party temp prove, but not into the Traeger port....in all honesty, even if Traeger's was accurate, who is only monitoring a single temp. Most people have multiple items to monitor, as well as the ambient temp, so those would show up (in my case) on the InkBird App where I have two (2) units and can monitor up to eight (8) probes :)

And the WiFi controller allows control over setting the grill temp, a timer, and on my T1300, SuperSmoke.

Good luck with your upcoming purchase!

Having WiFi might be ok, but personally I don’t believe it’s worth the extra money because the temperature probes and the temp controls are not accurate. Traeger grills historically do a very poor job of controlling the temperature. You’d think that with all of the negative posts about their poor temp controls, Traeger would do something about it. I just bought my second Traeger and I’ve already decided it’ll be my last. I believe there are a number of copycat pellet smokers out on the market that are not only cheaper, but control the temperature better. Do a little research and I’m sure you’ll find one. I’m sure someone on this site might be able to recommend one also.

I had the Pro 22 as my first smoker and it was a heap of you know what. I upgraded to the Pro 575 and never looked back, It is so much better than the 22. Check that the size is ok with the grills you do first. But get the Fireboard 2 so you can monitor the temp inside the smoker as well as the meat.

Rather than spend a couple hundred $ on a Fireboard 2, buy an old fashioned analog thermometer, drill a hole in your smoker lid near the internal temp element, install it and use it to compare the temp differences. If the comparison shows your grill is 20 degrees hotter, set your grill 20 degrees lower.
It works and will only cost you about $20 for a good analog thermometer. But you’ll probably need a 7/8” drill bit. I used a 3/4” bit (much cheaper) and moved it around to get to 7/8”.

But then you still need to spend the money on a third party wifi probe for your protein so no need to drill a hole in the grill imo

No you don’t. I don’t have WiFi and all is fine. I spent $19 on the thermometer and $20 for the drill bit. I use a hand held meat thermometer for internal meat temps. WiFi is not needed.

“Need” is an interesting word. He doesn’t “need” a smoker at all, so definitely doesn’t “need”

“Need” is an interesting word. We don’t “need” a lot of things we desire or that make things easier. IMO though wifi provides you a lot more freedoms, especially in a long cook, and is worth the extra price. This is especially true for a relative newbie like myself.

Whatever dude. I’m not going to participate in a worthless argument with you. You have your likes, I have mine. Maybe I’m old school, but not having WiFi doesn’t tie me down to my grill. I even hop in my car and make runs to the store, without WiFi.
