I cooked 3 Boston butts last weekend and they took 17 hours to reach temp> This weekend I am doing 1 so 19 hours and just reached 170. Is this normal or is there some way to speed it up a little. Cooking at 225 with probe rested on the counter for 2 hours before putting it on the smoker. Temps seem to be good. Used to have an offset charcoal smoker that would take 10-12 hours Any advice

Do the long cooks (20 hour range) really make a difference for pork butts? Typically when I cook a Boston Butt it takes me around 10 hours because I increase the temperature to 275 range once I wrap it. I bought the Traeger so I can start doing some longer cooks and just haven’t ventured to doing one yet minus my brisket recipe.

There's no reason to not raise the temp once wrapped. I've gone up to 325 once wrapped with no ill effects.

24 hours it was great the next time i will try wrapping it at 150 and unwrapping at 185 I do my brisket that way
