Black Smoke after startup

I have an 8 year old Lil Tex that I recently replaced the LED temp controller in. The grill starts and makes white smoke like it normally does, and the changes to a blackish smoke after it gets to temperature, and leaves a black film and an off taste that is not pleasant. I noticed the new controller cycles the auger fan on and off, and the old one kept the fan going constantly. Has anyone else had this happen after a controller change? Thanks for the help.

Edit; problem solved. Had the auger fan and auger circuits crossed. Switching the leads solved the issue. Thanks to Alan @ Ortech controls in Seattle for the help!
