Ash blow up

Is it normal for ash to blow up to cooking surface? Did my first long cook today (ribs) and noticed ash on the foil I wrapped ribs with?

I hadn't pondered this much until recently while reading a post elsewhere but I have an Ironwood and also a Rec Tec and now that I examine things I do see some ash on the grate. I haven't checked my food, though, but since there's some ash on the grate there's probably some on the food.
